ELAREM™ in Bone Implant Surface Research

PL BioScience
PL BioScience·27 April 2026·1 minute read

This study tested surface-modified poly-ε-caprolactone implants and their effect on hMSC attachment and osteogenic differentiation, using ELAREM™ fibrinogen-depleted Human Platelet Lysate (HPL) in the culture workflow.

This study investigated how surface modifications to poly-ε-caprolactone (PCL) implants, combining an osteon-like microstructure, cold atmospheric plasma treatment and extracellular matrix coating, affect human mesenchymal stem cell (hMSC) attachment, proliferation and osteogenic differentiation. These surface strategies were the drivers of the implant-performance results observed.

ELAREM™, PL BioScience’s fibrinogen-depleted Human Platelet Lysate (HPL), was used directly in the primary hMSC culture workflow, including in the osteogenic differentiation medium. ELAREM™ provided the human-derived cell culture support behind the hMSC testing system used to evaluate the implant surfaces.
